Coming back from a very white winter Wonder Bread land, it's quite interesting to see the diversity of cultures again back in the town I grew up. The town I lived in was WHITE. VERY WHITE. Sure there were your token minorities, of which my children and I were some of the few.... But it was still a small little town (there were cows in the neighborhood...). The city I'm in now has a bit more diversity and what a shock for the kids! They're so used to the white washed society that to see something other than John and Hannah Smith (whose ancestors could be traced back to the Mayflower)is like "Wow! I didn't realize there were so many different types of PEOPLE!" (Eek! NEED TO FIX! )And it's not just about the different cultures/ races, but the rich diversity of personalities and unique individuality! We came from "cookie cutter"-ville. They all dressed alike, they all acted alike, they dressed their children alike, they all had the same snotty attitudes. We were different and that was bad. Cookie cutter bullshit! YUCK! Fuckin' sheep!
I don't want my children growing up following the crowd. I'd much rather see them lead the crowds and masses.
