Police Officers...

I take great issue with people who don't respect cops and what they do. Fine... Some of 'em can be real assholes. I get that. Really, I do. I've met those, you've met those... We've all met those. But let's stop and think about this for a minute...
Cops are people just like us, right? They have their shitty days, they have their not shitty days... Can you try to tell me that you weren't ever an asshole when you were having a shitty day? I know I can't.
Don't get me wrong, I am NOT talking about those cops that wield their authority  around thinking their shit don't stink... I'm talking about Mr. or Ms. Police Officer, on the job, doing what they do and doing their best because that's what their supposed to do.
These men and women go to their jobs (Yes people... They're doing their JOBS...)not knowing what the day will bring. Could be a non-issue kind of day, but sometimes... Being part of the "first responders", sometimes they go to calls that would make anyone want to start drinking. Murders, rapes, suicides, drunk driving accidents, child abuse, animal abuse, something that went "bump" in the night... They see the darker side of humanity on a daily basis. I don't care how "hardened" a person becomes, it's got to do something to a person... I'm just saying...
We live in a society now where there is a need for law enforcement officers. Sad, but true. And there is a need for them to put on the "Yeah, I've heard that one before..." and likely, they have. (Except in the case of Travis the chimp... I don't think the cop on scene saw that coming...) Sure, it doesn't give them the right to be a jerk about whatever it is their dealing with, but don't go all, "Stupid PIG! Go flick on your bacon beacon and speed on over to the nearest Dunkin' Donuts! The crullers are calling!"
Maybe it's because my man is a cop and I'm a wee bit more sensitive about it... I don't know. But the point is even though most people are "Yuck!" about cops, when the shit hits the fan, who's the first one you're calling and wishing was there?
